Get Rich or Die Tryin Movie Story. “50 Cent”, one of the most popular stars in hip-hop (real name Curtis Jackson), is the force behind “Get Rich or Die Tryin’,” a movie directed by Oscar nominee Jim Sheridan about a street kid who makes his career in the drug trade but in the end dares to leave the scene behind and become the music artist he wanted to to be. Directed by Jim Sheridan and written by Terence Winter, the film tells a version of 50 Cent's own life. Marcus is a young man who adores his loving mother. But after she is brutally murdered in an apparent drug deal gone wrong, Marcus is going down himself. He abandons high school to sell drugs for local kingpin Levar and his underling, Majestic.
