Flags of Our Fathers Movie Story Synopsis

Joe Rosenthal was the war-photographer who made the immortal photograph of the five Marines raising the U.S. flag on Mount Suribachi, Iwo Jima on February 23, 1945.

Three surviving flag-raisers were returned to the U.S. and had to promote the Seventh War Bond Tour. The flag-raisers were considered the men who conquered the Japanese by the American Public. On the other hand the flag-raisers themselves thought that the real heroes were the men who died on Iwo Jima.

For two of these men, life became a series of compromises and disappointments. The third one shut off his war experiences and rarely spoke of them ever again.

The movie is a tale of sacrifice and manipulation, friendship and love, the director focuses equally on the war and home, switching from the battle to the propaganda campaign and back again.

This War-Drama based on the book of James Bradley was released on October 20th, 2006, filmed in Iceland, LA, Chicago, Washington D.C., and Iwo Jima, directed by Clint Eastwood and stars Jesse Bradford, Ryan Phillippe, Ben Walker, Adam Beach, Jamie Bell.
