Ask the Dust Movie Story.
A young writer, full of ambition and shame for having been castigated in Colorado for his Italian
heritage, comes to Los Angeles to become a novelist and meet a blonde beauty. As his writing
flourishes, he meets and becomes obsessed with a Barmaid (Salma Hayek).
Occupying a hallowed place in the literature of Los Angeles, John Fante's slender 1939 story "Ask the Dust"
pulses with the bruised but hopeful poetry of outsiders' yearnings.
The novel was Much admired by Charles Bukowski.
The love-hate romance involves not only the tug of war between novelist
Arturo Bandini and Barmaid Camilla Lopez but the tension between conservative America and the rest,
shame and self-realization, the skyward-reaching city and the wild natural continent.
Starring: Colin Farrell, Salma Hayek, Donald Sutherland, Charlie Hunnam and Eileen Atkins.
