Amazing Grace Movie Story Synopsis

The movie is about the 18th century political career of British anti-slavery pioneer William Wilberforce, who was elected to the House of Commons at the age of 21, and assembled a coalition against slavery that went up against the most powerful men of the time, including the king. Encouraged by William Pitt the Younger, who was at the age of 24 England's youngest Prime Minister ever, and John Newton, a friend of Wilberforce who inspired him to dedicate his life to humanity. Youssou N'Dour plays Olaudah Equiano, a slave in the Colonies, who became a leading figure in the fight against slavery after buying his freedom and writing an account of his life. This Political-Thriller was released on February 23rd, 2007, filmed in the UK, directed by Michael Apted and stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Romola Garai, Albert Finney, Ioan Gruffudd, Michael Gambon.
